Groundbreaking Ceremony for Construction of New Town of Canandaigua Highway Facility

(Canandaigua, NY)  - On Monday, June 19th, 2017 at 5:30 PM, the Town of Canandaigua Town Board, Public Works Committee, and the Town Highway Superintendent will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to kickoff the construction of the new Town of Canandaigua Highway Facility on the Town of Canandaigua campus.

Plans for a new highway facility began in earnest in 2015 when the Public Works Committee was formed and given the task to develop a plan to meet the Town’s facility needs for the next 25 years. As a result of an assessment of the existing buildings an urgent need was identified within the Highway and Water departments. The former Highway building, constructed in 1971, was in desperate need of repair and it was determined that the old facility was not suitable for renovation.

The Town Board tapped MRB Group to create a conceptual plan for a new building to replace the old one, and subsequently held a series of public hearings, workshops, and forums in 2016.  In April 2017, utilizing internal labor to minimize expenditures, the former Highway building was demolished.

The ground breaking ceremony will be followed by the regularly scheduled Town Board meeting at 6:00pm at the Canandaigua Town Hall, 5440 Route 5&20 Canandaigua.  The ground breaking ceremony and the Town Board meeting are both open to the public.
