March 1 Filing Deadline for Property Owners Seeking NYS Property Tax Exemptions.

Property owners who currently receive the Enhanced STAR, Senior Citizen, Agricultural, Disability, or Forestry exemptions must file their renewal form by March 1, 2016.

If you are in the income verification program for The Enhanced STAR, we sent out postcards in December to notify you of your status.

Any property owners who did not receive the renewal application should contact the Town of Canandaigua Assessment office.  (be sure to include your name and address.)

All property owners in New York state are eligible for the Basic STAR exemption on their primary residence as long as their adjusted gross income is less than $500,000 per year. Property owners who currently receive the Basic STAR exemption do not need to file a renewal form.

Property owners who will be 65 years old by Dec. 31, 2016 might be eligible for the Enhanced STAR Exemption and should contact our office before March 1 to find out.

The income maximum for Enhanced STAR has been raised to $84,550 per year. If a property owner did not qualify in the past because of income, he or she could be eligible under the new income rule.

Thank you
