TOWN OF CANANDAIGUA OPENS APPLICATION WINDOW

FOR PURCHASE OF DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS PROGRAM

(Canandaigua, NY)  - In preparation for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets 2020 Farmland Protection Implementation Grant Program, the Town of Canandaigua is pleased to once again announce the opening of the grant application window for those interested in considering the Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) program as a means to permanently protect their farmland from development. As in the past, the Town of Canandaigua will be working together with interested property owners to prepare application packages for submission to Ag & Markets. The Town’s internal application window opens May 1, 2019 and will close on July 31, 2019.

The Town of Canandaigua has a strong appreciation for the promotion and protection of agriculture and farmland in our community. The Town has worked very closely with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to adopt a Town of Canandaigua Agriculture Enhancement Plan, form a Town Agricultural Advisory Committee, and has worked tirelessly to permanently protect thousands of acres of farmland.

If you would like to consider applying for a PDR to help protect your farmland, please contact Sarah Reynolds, Administrative Coordinator, at sreynolds@townofcanandaigua.org or 585-394-1120 x2232. Or you may contact the Town Manager directly: Doug Finch, dfinch@townofcanandaigua.org or (585) 394-1120 x2234.

For more information about this program, please visit the Agricultural Advisory Committee’s page on the Town’s website, townofcanandaigua.org, where you’ll find a PDR fact sheet, a letter that was sent to Town of Canandaigua landowners with farm parcels of 50 or more acres, and this year’s application packet.
