Economic Development Committee
A Town Board Committee
Economic Development Committee
Welcome to the Economic Development Committee
Purpose
The Economic Development Committee was re-established in January 2023 to review referrals from and make recommendations to the Town Board on economic development matters.
Committee History & Previous Accomplishments
The Economic Development Committee (previously the Mixed Use Overlay - MUO - Team) began meeting in 2015 working to implement the following 2011 Comprehensive Plan Update goal:
Goal 13: Maximize opportunities for large and small scale commercial development within the Town without compromising the Town’s natural, scenic, cultural and historic resources.
- Step 3: “Review and consider code updates to the Mixed Use Overlay districts to maximize opportunities for commercial development.”
This group has already made recommendations which have been implemented including changes in the MUO-2 border (Gateway area) of the Town of Canandaigua.
The Economic Development Team changed focus in 2017 and was tasked with business development and retention in the Town of Canandaigua with specific focus on the three MUO zoning districts in the Town. They will also be working with the Genesee Transportation Council on an improved transportation and place-making feasibility study for the Uptown Region of the Town ( the area north of North Road to Emerson Road and from the Airport east to County Road 28 and the High School). This study will be funded with a grant awarded by the Genesee Transportation Council.
