Auburn Trail
Completing the Auburn Trail in the Town of Canandaigua
Project Overview
The Town of Canandaigua plans to complete the sections of the Auburn Trail that will pass through the Town of Canandaigua and connect it from where it currently stops in Farmington to the City of Canandaigua. A 2013 regional report on the Auburn Trail by Fisher Associates made recommendations for trail alignments and surface treatments through Farmington and Canandaigua. Since then, the Town has begun working on plans for portions of the trail and is now nearing completion of the plans to close the remaining gaps.
The Town Parks Department, Town Highway Department, MRB Group, and Fisher Associates have all been working together to come up with an alignment of the final trail that will provide safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists while also providing an enjoyable recreational experience for all users. The project is divided into three sections from the starting point at the north end of Town at the current terminus of the Auburn Trail on Canandaigua-Farmington Townline Road all the way to Buffalo Street where the walking trail in Outhouse Park joins the City of Canandaigua sidewalk system.
Construction has already begun for portions of the trail south of the airport and north of Outhouse Park. The Town is funding some of the work but it is the hope that additional outside funding can be secured through grants so that this important project can be completed for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.
