Emergency/Community Notifications
In the event of an emergency or other situation that citizens need to be informed of, Ontario County 9-1-1 utilizes an emergency / community notification system called Hyper-Reach®. The system has been used to advise of water main breaks, lost children, and dangerous conditions, as well as many others. We can choose an address, address range, or geographical area, and send a message to everyone selected at a rate of up to 10,000 phone numbers per hour. If you receive one of these calls, please follow the directions given and do not call 9-1-1 unless you have an emergency or are directed to do so.
The Hyper-Reach® system uses the phone company's database of landline (wired) telephone numbers provided by those telephone companies that serve Ontario County. If you utilize a TDD / TTY or if you use a wireless (cell) phone, digital (VoIP) phone, or a service like Magic Jack® and no longer have a regular wired home phone, please consider registering your phone number to receive these important messages, click the link above.
According to 10 years of CDC surveys, the percentage of households with landlines goes down about 4% each year. If that trend continues, less than 10% of people will have a landline at home by 2027, some agencies have even seen as much as a 15% decrease in landline phones.
When you receive alerts from this system, the Caller ID will show (585) 419-0890 to contact you via phone, and if you sign up for text alerts, you will receive text alerts from any of (833) 472- 5378, (618) 589-2255, (618) 589-1337, (618) 589-1351 or (585) 209-5563.
Please check out the links and add these numbers to your contact list!
