Volunteer Firefighter/Ambulance Worker Exemption

Volunteer Firefighter/Ambulance Worker Exemption

The Town Board voted in September to enact the Volunteer Firefighter/Ambulance worker exemption for property tax. Ontario County also has the same exemption, which would be applied for on the same application as the Town of Canandaigua exemption.

 How to get this exemption:
  • Be a resident of the Town of Canandaigua
  • Be a Volunteer Firefighter or Ambulance worker for a Fire or Ambulance Service that services the Town of Canandaigua.
  • Apply for the exemption with RP-466-a-vol found here: https://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp466a_vol_fill_in.pdf
  • These applications can also be obtained at the Assessor’s Office. Completed applications must be submitted to the Assessor’s Office by 3/1/2025.
  • The applicant’s volunteer service will be verified with the Ontario County Emergency Management Director, John Yannotti.
Please be aware that if you receive the Volunteer Firefighter/Ambulance worker credit on your Income tax, you will not be eligible to get the Property Tax exemption. You can get one or the other, but not both.
