Message from Supervisor Jared Simpson Regarding Assessor Meetings and Grievance Day
Dear Town Resident:
The Canandaigua Town Board takes assessments very seriously and we want to ease any concerns you may have about the process. Our assessors have been working 7 days a week during the informal review process to make sure as many residents as possible can be heard. If you were not able to secure an informal meeting with one of our assessors, you still can be heard as part of our process.
- May 23 from 8AM – 4PM our assessors will be available for brief walk-in informal review appointments.
- May 23 from 4PM – 8PM our Board of Assessment Review (BAR) will be available for limited walk-in appointments.
- May 30, June 6 and June 13, our BAR will be available for meetings by appointment only.
We encourage everyone who was not able to have an informal review to take advantage of one of these options. Our dedicated town staff will be available to assist you along the way. If you would like to have a formal meeting with the BAR, please fill out an RP-524 form (available online) (https://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp524_fill_in.pdf) and return it to Town Hall on or before 8PM Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Once you submit your form, Town staff will call you to set up a day and time for your BAR meeting.
If you need help accessing or filling out the form, please reach out to me directly, Supervisor Jared Simpson, cell # 585-749-7527 and I will be happy to help you.
Financial Impact: Based on current numbers we are estimating the town tax rate dropping from $1.06/$1,000 of assessed value to between $0.65/$0.75 cents per $1,000. The Canandaigua City School District is also showing a tax rate decrease for Town of Canandaigua residents from $19.86/$1,000 to an estimated rate of $14.05/$1,000 of assessed value.
As a Town Board, it is our honor to serve all the residents of this great town. Thank you for putting your trust in us as we go through this process.
For the Canandaigua Town Board,
Jared Simpson
Town Supervisor
